What you’ll be doing

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to lead the development and implementation of negotiation strategies aimed at securing access to necessary airport infrastructure, on commercial terms acceptable to Virgin Australia and aligned to our business objectives. Furthermore, you will provide technical and people leadership to the Airport Commercial Specialists across the team, to ensure Virgin Australia has access to the airport infrastructure required to meet the business’ strategic, operational and product requirements. You will also drive broader strategic engagement between the portfolio of airports and Virgin Australia stakeholders.

Further responsibilities:

  • Oversee negotiation of aeronautical pricing and commercial terms securing access to infrastructure required to meet Virgin Australia’s strategic, operational and financial requirements
  • Ensure airport development proposals are effectively challenged from a demand, scope & cost perspective
  • Manage airport performance against contract including annual security reconciliation, capital investment performance against plan and service level management
  • Approve monthly invoices
  • Build effective and productive relationships with relevant VA teams
  • Actively contribute to expanding the commercial knowledge base, negotiation skills and contract management practices across the Airports Commercial and Planning team
  • Demonstrate the Virgin Group organisational and leadership behaviours


You’ll be great in this role if you have…

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business / Commerce, Law, Economics or related discipline
  • 10 years’ experience in commercial roles, with a strong focus in negotiation, relationships and commercial acumen
  • Extensive negotiation experience 
  • People leadership experience
  • Proven track record of successfully negotiating complex commercial arrangements with third parties
  • Strong people and stakeholder management skills that enable credible and autonomous engagement of internal & external stakeholders 
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex commercial issues to senior management 
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills, enabling development of creative commercial solutions that meet the needs of internal & external stakeholders
  • High level of personal and professional accountability and resilience
